Beirut: President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, has requested that Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji instruct Lebanon’s permanent mission to the United Nations to file an urgent complaint with the UN Security Council. The complaint concerns Israel’s construction of a concrete wall on the southern Lebanese border, which crosses the Blue Line established post-Israeli withdrawal in 2000.
According to National news agency – Lebanon, the President’s directives include accompanying the complaint with UN reports that refute Israel’s denial of constructing the wall. These reports confirm that the wall built by the Israeli army has restricted southern residents’ access to over 4,000 square meters of Lebanese land.
International reports further verify that UNIFIL has notified Israel of the necessity to dismantle the wall. Israel’s ongoing presence on Lebanese territory and the construction activities in the area are considered violations of Security Council Resolution 1701 and infringe upon Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
