Beirut: President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, met with Lebanon's Central Bank Governor, Karim Souaid, at Baabda Palace to discuss the country's monetary and financial affairs. The discussions emphasized the importance of maintaining monetary stability and fostering close coordination between the Central Bank and the government to ensure the efficient functioning of public institutions.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the meeting also focused on the Central Bank's ongoing efforts to implement mechanisms for repaying depositors as per the existing circulars. This aligns with the strategy to protect depositors' rights within the current legal and regulatory framework.
Governor Souaid updated President Aoun on the progress made in financial and banking reforms, highlighting the draft law on bank restructuring. This draft is expected to complete its review and approval in the relevant parliamentary committees early next week, before being presented for final adoption by the Parliament in a plenary session.
