Beirut: President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, on Tuesday welcomed the first apostolic visit of Pope Leo XIV to Lebanon. President Aoun expressed gratitude and faith as he announced, on behalf of the Lebanese people, the forthcoming historic visit by Pope Leo XIV, which was officially invited by him.

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, President Aoun emphasized that this visit marks a historical moment, reaffirming Lebanon’s enduring presence in the Church and the global consciousness. He highlighted Lebanon as a land of freedom, coexistence, and a unique human message, notwithstanding the nation’s current challenges.

President Aoun described the visit as a significant milestone in the long-standing relationship between Lebanon and the Holy See, showcasing the Vatican’s continuous trust in Lebanon’s role as a message and a homeland. He called upon all Lebanese, regardless of sect or community, to welcome Pope Leo XIV with genuine joy and unity, illustrating the true image of Lebanon.

The President underscored the importance of this visit during a time of mounting challenges, viewing it as a renewed call for peace, the strengthening of the Christian presence in the East, and the preservation of the Lebanese model, which holds vital significance both regionally and globally.

President Aoun concluded by expressing his deep gratitude to Pope Leo XIV for accepting the invitation and his affection for Lebanon.
