Qatar and Lebanon Strengthen Ties During Salam’s Official Visit to Doha

Doha: Prime Minister Nawaf Salam arrived in Doha on an official visit to Qatar, leading a ministerial delegation comprising key figures such as Minister of Culture Dr. Ghassan Salam©, Minister of Energy and Water Joe Saddi, Minister of Public Works and Transport Fayez Rasamny, and Minister of State for Administrative Development Fadi Makki.

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, the delegation was welcomed at the Amiri Diwan by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, where an extensive meeting ensued, followed by a bilateral discussion between the Amir and the Lebanese Prime Minister. During the meeting, Salam emphasized Lebanon’s solidarity with Qatar, condemning the Iranian attack on Al Udeid Air Base, which he described as a violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and international law. Salam affirmed Lebanon’s rejection of any actions undermining Qatar’s security and regional stability.

The leaders acknowledged the recent cessation of hostilities between Israel and Iran, highlighting its significance in restoring calm in the region, notably impacting Lebanon, Palestine, and the Gulf. Prime Minister Salam expressed gratitude for Qatar’s ongoing support to Lebanon amid regional challenges. In response, the Amir appreciated Lebanon’s solidarity and reiterated Qatar’s unwavering support for Lebanon’s peace and development.

Further discussions with Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani focused on enhancing bilateral relations and exploring cooperation opportunities, particularly in the energy sector. The talks also covered collaboration in public works, administrative development, and cultural affairs. Both sides highlighted the necessity of international efforts to address Israeli violations against Lebanon and stressed the importance of Israel’s withdrawal from occupied territories.

The visit underscored efforts to reinforce Arab cooperation and historical ties between Qatar and Lebanon, reaffirming their joint commitment to regional stability and development. During a joint press conference, Prime Minister Salam praised Qatar’s hospitality and leadership, emphasizing Lebanon’s support against any aggression and thanking Qatar for its continued support in various sectors.

Salam also discussed Lebanon’s reform initiatives and reiterated the call for Israel’s full withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territories, emphasizing the need for international support. On regional issues, he condemned the Israeli attack on Iran and praised Qatar’s mediation efforts in ending hostilities, reflecting a unified Arab stance.

Prime Minister Salam concluded by inviting his Qatari counterpart to visit Lebanon, expressing hope for strengthened regional stability and cooperation. The Qatari Prime Minister accepted the invitation, looking forward to visiting Lebanon soon.
