Qatar Condemns Iranian Aggression and Calls for Peace in the Region

Geneva: The State of Qatar has reiterated its strong condemnation of Iran's attacks on several countries in the region, describing them as unjustified and dangerous actions that could escalate existing conflicts. The State of Qatar urged an immediate halt to military activities and attacks, emphasizing the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, returning to diplomacy and dialogue, and adhering to previously reached understandings. According to Union of OIC News Agencies, the statement was delivered by Dr. Hind Abdulrahman Al-Muftah, Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva, during her participation in a general debate with the High Commissioner for Human Rights. The debate was part of the sixty-third session of the Human Rights Council held in Geneva. The statement also condemned ongoing Israeli settlement activities, particularly the E1 plan, as well as attacks on Gaza and the rejection of peace plans aimed at ending the conflict. Additionally, it called for accountability for the forced displacement of Palestinians, settler violence, and continued attacks on Lebanon, advocating for a lasting and just peace. Dr. Al-Muftah welcomed progress in Syria, highlighting a new phase that promises to safeguard Syrian rights. She appreciated efforts towards transitional justice and addressing missing persons, calling for the integration of the Syrian Democratic Forces into state military institutions. Furthermore, Qatar called on the international community to maintain political, economic, and humanitarian support, lift sanctions, and take a firm stance against Israeli attacks on Syrian territory. The statement concluded by condemning violations by the Rapid Support Forces in and around Al-Ubayyid, urging accountability for attacks on civilian and vital facilities, and rejecting external interference in Sudan's internal affairs that could prolong the conflict.
