Harissa: Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Mar Bechara Boutros Rai, presided over the Mass for the Feast of Our Lady of Lebanon and the opening of the Marian month at the Basilica of Our Lady of Lebanon in Harissa. The event was attended by bishops, clergy, officials, and a large number of faithful, including Lebanon's Minister of Information Paul Morcos.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, in his homily, Patriarch Rahi reflected on the Gospel passage "From now on all generations will call me blessed." He emphasized that Mary is praised not for seeking glory, but because God accomplished great things in her through grace. He highlighted that her life reveals how divine action can transform human history and raise what is humble to greatness.
Rahi discussed five major Marian doctrines: her Immaculate Conception, her divine motherhood while remaining a virgin, her participation in Christ's suffering, her Assumption into heaven, and her motherhood of the Church. He described these doctrines as central dimensions of Mary's role in salvation history and in the life of believers.
Turning to Lebanon's current situation, the Patriarch described a country burdened by anxiety, division, and uncertainty amid ongoing tensions and the impact of war. He noted that daily life has become marked by instability, weakened trust among citizens, and rising social and political fragmentation.
He strongly criticized the tone of public debate on social media, arguing that what is taking place is not genuine freedom of expression but rather a dangerous erosion of language and values, involving the violation of human dignity. He warned that Lebanon cannot endure escalating verbal hostility that deepens division and undermines social cohesion.
Despite the difficulties, Rahi urged hope, recalling that Lebanon has repeatedly overcome crises and risen from destruction. He encouraged the faithful to look to Mary as a source of comfort and intercession, calling on her to accompany Lebanon in its trials and guide it toward stability and peace.
He concluded by praying for renewed hope in the country, asking for protection, unity, and a "new dawn" for Lebanon, expressing confidence that God continues to work wonders in the lives of individuals and nations alike.
