Beirut: Public Works and Transport Minister Fayez Rassamni visited Beirut International Airport on Christmas Eve to inspect civil aviation operations and extend holiday greetings to staff. Minister Rassamni praised the dedication of airport workers and security personnel, noting their round-the-clock efforts during the holiday season. Rassamni highlighted the airport’s critical role as Lebanon’s main gateway for expats and tourists.

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, he revealed that nearly 1 million passengers arrived in Lebanon over the past three months, with a daily average of 15,000-16,000 arrivals, figures he described as exceeding expectations and a sign of optimism. The minister stressed the vital role of Lebanon’s diaspora in supporting the national economy, emphasizing the need to invest in the airport and consider establishing a second one in the future.

‘The diaspora is Lebanon’s strength and weapon,’ he said, calling for more efforts to encourage expatriates to visit, reconnect with their families, and invest in the country. Backed by President Joseph Aoun and PM Najib Salam, Rassamni affirmed that all necessary steps will be taken to support this vision.

He described the current holiday season as one of the most heartwarming in years, noting the return of many Lebanese who haven’t visited in over a decade. He concluded by stressing that restoring expatriates’ trust starts at the airport and through strong, stable state institutions.
