Beirut: Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has unveiled plans for significant development projects set to coincide with his forthcoming visit to northern Lebanon. Among these initiatives is a master plan for Rene Mouawad Airport in Qlayaat, which has attracted interest from several foreign investors.
According to National News Agency – Lebanon, during a meeting with Akkar’s Mufti, Sheikh Zaid Zakaria, and a regional delegation, Prime Minister Salam underscored the necessity of elections, renewal, and accountability. He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that Lebanon’s borders remain secure by issuing firm directives to the army and security agencies. Furthermore, he underscored the importance of reopening legal border crossings with Syria, suggesting that Syrian stability could contribute to economic revival in northern Lebanon.
Mufti Zakaria commended the government’s dedication to electoral processes and emphasized the importance of operationalizing Qlayaat Airport and making necessary administrative appointments in Akkar. He also highlighted that reopening legal border crossings would strengthen social connections and justify efforts to clamp down on illegal border activities.
