Beirut: Prime Minister Nawaf Salam strongly condemned what he described as an attempt by Yemen's Houthi group to target Mecca with a drone, saying the incident showed disregard for the sanctity of Islam's holiest city and its significance to Muslims worldwide.

According to National news agency - Lebanon, Salam stated that such actions not only threaten Saudi Arabia's security and sovereignty, but also risk undermining stability across the region. He emphasized the importance of protecting Mecca from any form of aggression, given its central role in the Muslim world.

Salam reaffirmed Lebanon's full solidarity with the Saudi leadership and people, stressing that Lebanon stands by the Kingdom in confronting any attack affecting its security, sovereignty, citizens, or residents. He urged for a collective response to ensure the safety and sanctity of significant religious sites.
