Luxembourg: Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on Tuesday told the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg that Lebanon stands at a critical crossroads following a fragile ceasefire, stressing that ending the war requires restoring full sovereignty and ensuring the state’s exclusive authority over decisions of war and peace.

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, Salam stated that Lebanon has engaged in US-mediated talks with Israel to secure a lasting solution. This includes Israeli withdrawal, the return of detainees, and the safe return of displaced people. He emphasized that diplomacy should be seen as a reflection of responsibility rather than a sign of weakness.

Salam also highlighted the severe impact of the war, noting that over one million people have been displaced and infrastructure has suffered widespread damage. He urged for stronger European support for humanitarian relief, reconstruction, and institutional reforms to aid the country’s recovery.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed Lebanon’s commitment to financial restructuring, governance reforms, and strengthening the Lebanese Army. He noted that sustainable recovery depends heavily on credible institutions and international partnerships.
