Riyadh: The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates issued a statement regarding the meeting between President Ahmad al-Sharaa and U.S. President Donald Trump in the Saudi capital, Riyadh. The meeting, described as historic, included His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan via a phone call, as well as the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Syria, and the United States.
According to National News Agency – Lebanon, the discussions emphasized the importance of lifting sanctions on Syria and supporting the nation’s recovery and reconstruction. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman highlighted the necessity of these measures for regional stability. President Trump expressed the United States’ commitment to support Syria during this critical period. President Ahmad al-Sharaa expressed gratitude for the regional and international support, emphasizing Syria’s progress toward the future.
The meeting also explored Syrian-American collaboration in counterterrorism efforts and the elimination of non-state actors and armed groups that threaten stability, including ISIS. A follow-up meeting is planned between the Syrian Foreign Minister and U.S. counterpart Marco Rubio to further bilateral coordination and build on the understandings reached in Riyadh.
