UK and Lebanon Launch Joint Military Exercise “PEGASUS CEDAR 2026”

Beirut:British soldiers from the Support Company of the 4th Battalion of The Royal Regiment of Scotland, based at Dhekelia Garrison Cyprus, have arrived in Lebanon to engage in a collaborative military exercise with the Lebanese Air Assault Regiment. This significant event, known as "PEGASUS CEDAR 2026," aims to fortify bilateral defense ties and improve operational readiness.

According to National news agency - Lebanon, the exercise will span three weeks in October, building upon the success of the previous largest UK-Lebanese military training exercise conducted in September 2023. The troops will focus on tactical skills such as mortar weapon systems, small unit tactics, reconnaissance, and helicopter drills. This challenging exercise will enhance the capabilities of both nations' forces. Additionally, personnel from the United States and Italy will participate, while representatives from France, Cyprus, Qatar, and Jordan will observe.

The British Ambassador to Lebanon, Hamish Cowell, emphasized the exercise as a testament to the strong partnership between the UK and Lebanon, highlighting ongoing military collaborations to bolster the Lebanese Armed Forces as Lebanon's sole legitimate defender. The British Defence Attaché, Lt. Col Charles Smith, noted that the exercise builds trust and reflects the shared vision for a secure future.

Major Aidan Welch, Commander of the Support Company, expressed pride in training alongside the Lebanese Armed Forces, noting the warm welcome they received and the exercise's role in strengthening collective capabilities and readiness.
