Beirut: Jean Arnault, appointed as the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, a.i., conducted his inaugural official meetings this week in Beirut.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Arnault met with several key Lebanese figures, including the President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun; the Speaker of Parliament, Nabih Berri; and the President of the Council of Ministers, Nawaf Salam. These initial meetings provided a platform to discuss significant developments and the ongoing cooperation between the United Nations and Lebanon, particularly focusing on advancing the implementation of United Nations resolution 1701 (2006).

Arnault expressed that his discussions with the Lebanese leadership were both positive and informative. He emphasized the importance of understanding their perspectives on the forthcoming tasks for Lebanon. He noted a shared sentiment among the leaders that the Lebanese population is resilient and capable of tackling the nation's challenges collectively. Arnault reaffirmed the United Nations' commitment to continue partnering with Lebanon to support these efforts.
