Beirut: UNIFIL spokesperson Danny Al-Ghafri expressed deep sorrow over the recent killing of Lebanese journalist Amal Khalil. "We are deeply saddened for the killing of a Lebanese journalist yesterday. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Amal Khalil. We further extend our sincere wishes and hopes for a full and swift recovery of the other journalist who was injured in the same incident," stated Al-Ghafri in Arabic.
According to National Nws Aency - Lebanon, UNIFIL emphasized the critical role journalists play, especially during conflicts, insisting they deserve respect and protection at all times. The incident occurred in At Tiri following an airstrike, prompting UNIFIL to send notifications to the IDF to coordinate LRC missions aimed at aiding the affected journalists. It was noted that these movements were being deconflicted through various channels, and IDF later ensured safe passage for LRC and LAF escort teams.
The tragic event has amplified calls for enhanced safety measures for journalists operating in conflict zones, highlighting the need for collaborative efforts to secure their well-being while they perform their essential duties.
