US Clarifies Departure Order Only for Saudi Arabia Amid Houthi Escalation

Washington:The United States has clarified that its departure order applies solely to Saudi Arabia and not to other Gulf embassies. This clarification comes amidst increasing Houthi attacks in the region.

According to National news agency - Lebanon, US State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott has denied reports suggesting that Washington is evacuating its embassies across the Gulf. Pigott emphasized that the departure order is specific to Saudi Arabia due to the escalating attacks by the Iran-backed Houthis.

In a statement posted on X, Pigott confirmed that the State Department has ordered non-essential US government personnel and their family members to leave Saudi Arabia. The intensified Houthi attacks have targeted civilian airports and critical infrastructure, causing civilian casualties and significant travel disruptions.

Pigott reiterated that the safety and security of State Department personnel and their families are of utmost importance. He assured that the US is committed to implementing all necessary protective measures. This clarification followed a recent State Department announcement mandating the departure of certain diplomatic personnel and their families from Saudi Arabia in response to the ongoing attacks.
