President of Yarmouk University (YU), Dr. Islam Massad, on Wednesday discussed with Executive Director of the Jordanian-American Commission for Educational Exchange (JACEE) – Fulbright Jordan, Edward Bardos, and Jed Dornberg of the US Embassy in Amman, ways to enhance joint cooperation. During the meeting, Massad said increasing the number of scholarship holders to complete their doctoral degree in prestigious international universities, especially in U.S. universities, is one of the university’s key priorities during the next five years, in various humanitarian and scientific disciplines, especially in the engineering, information technology, humanities, social sciences, and nursing fields. Massad also said YU attaches “remarkable” importance to arming its students with the skills necessary to complete their postgraduate studies in prestigious international universities, and enter the labor market. Massad reviewed some joint cooperation programs that are currently implemented jointly by YU and some “distinguished” U.S. universities at the international level. Meanwhile, Bardos stressed Fulbright’s keenness to find opportunities for scientific and academic cooperation between YU and various U.S. universities in areas of common interest, which contributes to strengthening YU’s educational and scientific progress. Referring to Rawabit: U.S.-Jordanian University Cooperation Network, Bardos said this project aims to enhance academic communication between faculty members in Jordanian and U.S. universities by providing the necessary support for faculty members’ travel to start joint research projects. Bardos called on YU to cooperate with Fulbright to launch “Fulbright Advisor Project at the University,” which would provide students and staff with access to personal counseling and guidance by appointing a university faculty member as a YU-based Fulbright advisor.
