Madrid: President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, arrived at Torrej³n Air Base in Madrid, Spain, for a two-day working visit, where he will meet with King Felipe VI and Prime Minister Pedro S¡nchez to sign several agreements aimed at bolstering economic and cultural ties between the two nations.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, President Aoun is accompanied by Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji, Lebanese Ambassador to Spain Hani Chemaitli, and an official delegation. Upon his arrival, he expressed his gratitude to Spain for their invitation, highlighting the strong historical relations based on mutual respect and shared values between Lebanon and Spain.

President Aoun emphasized the significance of Spain's support in international forums, particularly against Israeli actions, and praised Spain's contribution to UNIFIL since 2006. He also acknowledged the inclusion of Lebanon in the Spanish Cooperation Master Plan for 2024-2027, which allocates financial support for vital projects in health and culture.

The President expressed Lebanon's interest in strengthening economic cooperation by increasing Spanish investments and improving trade balance with Spain. He also highlighted the importance of cultural relations, citing the presence of Lebanese students in Madrid and Spanish cultural activities in Lebanon.

During the visit, agreements covering agriculture, culture, and science will be signed, showcasing both countries' commitment to bilateral cooperation. President Aoun underlined the shared belief in cultural dialogue and coexistence, expressing Lebanon's desire to activate these shared values into concrete initiatives.

President Aoun plans to discuss with the Spanish leaders the need for the European Union to take decisive measures against Israel, urging compliance with the ceasefire agreement and UN Resolution 1701.
