Beirut: On the occasion of World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, on Thursday called on all Lebanese, both at home and abroad, to support the Lebanese Red Cross. The organization launched its 2025 fundraising campaign on Wednesday from Baabda Palace under the slogan ‘With your support, we carry on.’
According to National News Agency – Lebanon, President Aoun delivered a message on May 8, emphasizing the crucial role of the Lebanese Red Cross as a vital support system for citizens during challenging times. He expressed his gratitude to volunteers and workers across the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement, recognizing their dedication and courage.
President Aoun reiterated the Lebanese state’s steadfast support for the Red Cross, acknowledging its neutrality and professionalism during Lebanon’s crises. He stressed the importance of maintaining humanitarian principles in a turbulent world.
On security matters, President Aoun addressed the recent Israeli airstrikes targeting the Nabatieh area in southern Lebanon, receiving field reports from Army Commander General Rodolphe Haikal regarding the affected locations and the aftermath.
In political developments, President Aoun met with MP Melhem Riachy from the ‘Strong Republic’ bloc. Riachy congratulated the president on the successful completion of the first phase of municipal and mukhtar elections in Mount Lebanon and expressed confidence in Aoun’s efforts to protect Lebanese sovereignty.
Additionally, President Aoun welcomed MP Jamil Abboud to discuss the country’s general situation and the developmental needs of the North, particularly Tripoli. Abboud encouraged the president to visit Tripoli and assist in reviving stalled development projects. The discussion also covered economic reform, highlighting the alignment of the government’s reform steps with President Aoun’s inaugural speech and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam’s ministerial statement. Abboud emphasized the importance of Parliament passing essential financial legislation.
