Beirut: State Security Director General Major General Edgar Lawandos emphasized the critical role of combating corruption as a component of national security during a dialogue session organized by the Bassel Fleihan Institute of Finance and Economics in collaboration with the General Directorate of State Security.

According to National news agency - Lebanon, the session, titled "Combating Corruption: From Prevention to Confrontation," culminated in the signing of a cooperation agreement. This agreement aims to train State Security personnel in areas such as public finance, economic awareness, anti-corruption strategies, governance, public procurement, and financial crime prevention.

Institute President Lamia Moubayed Bissat highlighted that the fight against corruption is integral to rebuilding the state's capacity. She noted that corruption erodes public trust, weakens institutions, exacerbates inequality, and fosters environments for patronage and favoritism.

Lawandos articulated that addressing corruption requires more than just the prosecution of bribery, forgery, and influence abuse. He underscored the necessity of prevention through effective administration, comprehensive training, and transparent practices.

The agreement outlines that the institute will develop and implement training activities geared towards enhancing the economic, financial, and professional skills of State Security personnel, ensuring they are equipped with the latest knowledge in public finance.
