Beirut: President of the Republic Joseph Aoun on Thursday met UN Deputy Special Coordinator, Resident Coordinator, and Humanitarian Coordinator Imran Riza at Baabda Palace to discuss developments in Lebanon and the United Nations' work, particularly in the humanitarian field.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Aoun also met with Middle East Airlines (MEA) Chairman and Director-General Mohammad El-Hout to review U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to allow American airlines to resume flights to Beirut after a 41-year suspension. El-Hout stated that MEA was capable of operating a direct Beirut-New York route and would soon receive additional aircraft to expand its fleet. He highlighted that arrangements would be coordinated with the U.S. side before the route could be launched.
Aoun praised MEA's efforts in maintaining Lebanon's links with the world despite challenging regional conditions. In a separate gesture, Aoun sent a congratulatory message to Morocco's King Mohammed VI on Throne Day, reaffirming Lebanon's commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and wishing Morocco continued security, stability, and progress.
