Baabda: President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun, on Wednesday announced that Lebanon is on the verge of launching tenders to operate Qlayaat Airport and initiate a study for a railway connecting Tripoli, Abdah, and Akkar. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing development projects in the northern region during a meeting with heads of Akkar municipal federations and mukhtars at Baabda Palace.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Aoun highlighted that Akkar has historically been a significant supporter of the military institution, warranting increased governmental focus. He committed to advancing projects such as establishing a military hospital and expanding the presence of the Lebanese University in the region.

Aoun underlined the necessity of national unity, cautioning that no Lebanese faction has ever dominated another and warning that "if the roof of the house collapses, it falls on everyone." He also pointed out the anticipated benefits of appointing boards for Tripoli's special economic zone, port, and Rashid Karami International Fair.

In a separate set of meetings, Aoun engaged with Assaad Eid, the newly appointed head of the National Council for Scientific Research, Financial Prosecutor Judge Maher Chaito, State Security chief Major General Edgar Lawandos, and congratulated 17-year-old Lebanese driver Christopher Feghali for his victory in the opening round of the Eurocup-3 championship in France.
