Aoun Slams Israeli Strike on South Lebanon: Its Danger Lies in Timing After Gaza Ceasefire

Beirut: President Joseph Aoun strongly condemned the recent Israeli airstrikes on South Lebanon, describing them as a blatant act of aggression targeting civilian infrastructure without any justification or even a pretext.

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, in a statement following the attacks that destroyed several heavy machinery yards and caused civilian casualties on the Msaileh road, Aoun emphasized the danger of the timing. ‘The seriousness of this assault lies in the fact that it comes after the ceasefire agreement in Gaza,’ he said, noting that the Palestinian side had agreed to measures involving disarmament and de-escalation.

He raised critical questions about Israel’s intentions, suggesting that the strike could be an attempt to shift the conflict toward Lebanon, effectively using the country as a substitute battlefield to maintain political leverage through violence.

Aoun called on the Lebanese and the international community to confront this challenge, adding: ‘If Lebanon was dragged into the Gaza war under the pretext of support, isn’t it now logical and fair to support Lebanon by applying the same ceasefire model that all parties have agreed on for Gaza?’
