Beirut: President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun, emphasized that negotiations remain the only viable path to liberate the south, deploy the army, and ensure the return of residents during a meeting at Baabda Palace with a delegation from the Maronite General Council. He highlighted Lebanese unity and faith in the state as crucial to overcoming the country's challenges and noted the government's efforts in addressing entrenched corruption.

According to National news agency - Lebanon, Aoun remarked that rebuilding the country is a shared responsibility and placed importance on national interest over personal interests. He acknowledged the economic and financial reform measures adopted by the government, despite being insufficient, had spurred some growth. However, he noted that expectations for stronger growth were hindered by the war.

Despite ongoing challenges, Aoun expressed hope that Lebanon would eventually regain its regional stature, emphasizing that the country continues to command international respect and that Arab nations are eager for Lebanon's restoration. He urged unity around the state to protect and work for everyone's interest and called for a departure from sectarian divisions.

Addressing the negotiations, Aoun stated that the state had committed to negotiations post-war devastation, noting that while not easy or quick, they remain preferable to war. He reiterated the clear objectives of liberating the south, army deployment, prisoner recovery, resident return, and reconstruction, stressing that these goals cannot be achieved through war.

Aoun also underscored that Lebanon seeks investment over aid, encouraging countries to create opportunities for Lebanon. In a separate engagement, he met with Qatari dignitaries to discuss Lebanese sports interests and the achievements of Lebanese athletes.

The president also reviewed Lebanese-Indian and Lebanese-Russian relations, discussing potential expansions in cooperation. Administratively, he met with Central Inspection Authority President Judge Georges Attieh to discuss efforts against corruption and ensuring sound performance in state institutions.

In cultural matters, Aoun was briefed on plans to establish a museum dedicated to late Lebanese artist Wadih El Safi in Niha Al-Chouf, commending efforts to preserve his legacy as a cultural bridge for Lebanon's artistic heritage.
