Beirut: Banque BEMO and the American University of Science and Technology (AUST) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during a ceremony at AUST's Ashrafieh Campus. The agreement was signed by Dr. Riad Obegi, Chairman and General Manager of Banque BEMO, and Dr. Riad Sakr, President of AUST. The MoU establishes a cooperative framework between AUST and Banque BEMO, integrating their academic, professional, and alumni networks through educational and community-oriented initiatives.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the ceremony saw the attendance of AUST's provost, board members, deans, and administrators, alongside a delegation from Banque BEMO. This included Mr. Samih Saade, Vice Chairman and Managing Director; Father Gabriel Khairallah, Board Member; Mrs. Claudine Feghaly, Executive Director; and Mrs. Alecca Simon, Alumni Representative.
During the event, Dr. Obegi highlighted the importance of the partnership in the context of trust and the evolving role of banking institutions. He emphasized banking's shift from solely collecting deposits to creating initiatives that serve society. He stated that building relations with academic institutions is vital, as alumni are the future of Lebanon. Dr. Obegi reflected on AUST's motto, 'Commitment to Excellence,' as a shared conviction necessary for Lebanon's progress.
Dr. Riad Sakr, President of AUST, emphasized the partnership's alignment with the university's educational mission, connecting academic learning with professional practice. He highlighted AUST's efforts to provide career-relevant education across its campuses and the importance of preparing students for university and professional life. Dr. Sakr noted that the MoU with Banque BEMO fosters cooperation between academia and the banking sector, creating opportunities for students and alumni to engage with the professional world.
The event also featured a documentary screening about AUST, followed by a question-and-answer session. After the MoU signing, Dr. Obegi and Dr. Sakr exchanged commemorative gifts on behalf of their institutions. The ceremony concluded with a group photograph and a reception.
