Damascus: Iraqi Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani expressed optimism about Syria's future under the leadership of President Ahmad al-Sharaa during a meeting held in Damascus. Barzani stated that Syria is on a path toward greater stability and prosperity, and he envisions "a brighter future for all its people."

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Barzani's visit to Damascus was at the invitation of President al-Sharaa. Following their discussions, Barzani described the current period as "a historic opportunity" for Syria's recovery, reconstruction, and prosperity after enduring years of hardship. He emphasized his confidence in President al-Sharaa's vision and leadership as pivotal to achieving these goals.

Barzani reiterated his support for a stable and united Syria, highlighting the importance of safeguarding the rights of all ethnic and religious communities within the country. Their discussions also touched on Syria's role in fostering peace, security, and stability in the region.

Furthermore, Barzani emphasized the shared interests between Syria, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region, noting the potential for expanded economic cooperation that could be mutually beneficial. Earlier in the day, Barzani and his delegation were received by President al-Sharaa at the People's Palace in Damascus. The meeting, attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani, focused on strengthening bilateral relations, enhancing cooperation, particularly in the economic sector, and reviewing the latest regional developments.
