Beirut: The Brazilian government has expressed deep concern over the recent escalation of hostilities in the Gulf region, highlighting the serious threat posed to international peace and security. The situation, according to a press release from the Brazilian Embassy in Beirut, carries potentially wide-ranging humanitarian and economic impacts.

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, Brazil is calling for the cessation of offensive military actions and urging all involved parties to respect International Law. The Brazilian government condemns any measures that violate the sovereignty of third States or actions that may further escalate the conflict, such as retaliatory actions and attacks on civilian areas.

The Brazilian press release recalls that the right of self-defense, as outlined in Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, is an exceptional measure that must be proportional and directly linked to an armed attack. Brazil has expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Kuwait, and Jordan, which were targets of retaliatory attacks by Iran on February 28.

The Brazilian government has lamented the loss of civilian lives and expressed solidarity with the families of the victims. It emphasizes the obligation of States to ensure the protection of civilians in accordance with International Humanitarian Law.

Brazil reaffirms its belief that dialogue and diplomatic negotiation are the only viable paths toward overcoming differences and building a lasting solution. It underscores the central role of the United Nations in conflict prevention and resolution, in line with the Charter of San Francisco.
