Deputy PM Mitri Chairs Humanitarian Law Committee Meeting Ahead of UN Rights Mission

Beirut: Deputy Prime Minister, Tarek Mitri, on Thursday chaired a meeting of Lebanon's National Committee for International Humanitarian Law. During the meeting, participants reviewed efforts concerning the legal documentation and reporting on violations.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Mitri stated that the Cabinet was closely monitoring the committee's work and provided members with updates on coordination efforts with various ministries and parliamentary committees. The Minister further announced the approval to host a specialised mission from the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in the upcoming weeks, with discussions focusing on preparations for this significant visit.

The committee spent time reviewing a draft report being prepared for presentation to international bodies. Additionally, they discussed coordination with the judiciary regarding legal records and procedures, ensuring that the country's legal framework is aligned with international standards.

Participants of the meeting emphasized the necessity of informing victims' families and those affected by humanitarian law violations about the legal channels available to them in Lebanon and abroad. This step is seen as vital in ensuring that affected individuals have access to justice and necessary support mechanisms.
