Deputy Prime Minister Mitri Engages with Syrian Delegation on Bilateral Cooperation

Beirut: Deputy Prime Minister Tarek Mitri held a meeting with an official Syrian delegation, which included former Minister and Director of Arab Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohammed Taha Al-Ahmad, former Minister Mohammed Yaqoub al-Omar, head of the Consular Administration, and Mohammad Reza Jalkhi, head of the National Commission for Missing Persons in Syria. The meeting focused on discussing common issues and exploring ways to enhance collaboration between the two countries.

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, the discussion covered several key topics, including the situation of Syrian detainees and missing persons in Lebanon, as well as Lebanese missing persons in Syria. Both parties emphasized the need for cooperation in border control and the prevention of smuggling activities.

The talks also addressed the issue of displaced Syrians and highlighted the importance of facilitating their return to Syria. Furthermore, there was an agreement to review and improve existing Lebanese-Syrian agreements and consider new measures to stimulate economic cooperation between the two nations.

In conclusion, it was decided to establish two specialized committees. These committees will focus on drafting preparatory texts for a judicial agreement and matters related to borders. This initiative is part of the preparations for an upcoming Syrian ministerial visit to Beirut.
