Beirut: The media office of Education and Higher Education Minister Dr. Rima Karami on Friday responded to concerns raised by MP Paula Yacoubian over the classification of a damaged school in the Bint Jbeil district, near Israeli-held positions, as eligible for in-person learning. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the ministry said school lists are intended to identify available educational options based on security conditions and do not impose in-person learning regardless of developments on the ground. It added that the lists are updated daily in line with the security situation and changes involving displacement shelters.

Under Ministry Decision No. 1241, in-person learning remains the preferred option whenever public safety and adequate operational conditions are ensured. When this is wholly or partially impossible, blended or remote learning may be adopted temporarily. The ministry stressed that public school principals are responsible for assessing conditions on the ground, in coordination with parents and local authorities, and selecting the safest and most appropriate teaching format before informing the ministry. It clarified that the school cited by Yacoubian had been listed under in-person learning due to a typographical error, which was immediately corrected.
