Beirut: The European Union announced that the framework agreement signed by Lebanon and Israel in Washington provides "a much-needed positive prospect" for efforts to de-escalate tensions and promote peace in the region.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the EU issued a statement commending the constructive engagement of all involved parties and urged them to maintain their commitments, particularly through the newly formed Trilateral Military Coordination Group. The statement emphasized that any enduring solution should be grounded in the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which calls for the withdrawal of all forces from Lebanese territory and the disarmament of all non-state armed groups.

The EU also drew attention to its recently approved assistance package of 100 million pounds for the Lebanese Armed Forces. This financial support underscores the EU's backing of the Lebanese government's efforts to extend state authority and ensure that weapons remain solely under state control.
