Iranian and Iraqi Foreign Ministers Discuss Regional Security in Baghdad


Beirut: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has met with Fuad Hussein, his Iraqi counterpart, in the Iraqi capital. The two ministers are currently giving a press conference in Baghdad.



According to National News Agency – Lebanon, Iraq’s Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein emphasized the ongoing conflict in the region, noting that military skirmishes persist near the Strait of Hormuz. Hussein highlighted the importance of ending the war in the region and stated that regional security should be managed by its own people. He suggested a meeting involving the Gulf states, Iraq, and Iran to discuss protective measures for the region.



Hussein also emphasized the significance of opening the Strait of Hormuz and lifting the naval blockade as crucial issues in his discussions with Araghchi. The visit addressed both regional and bilateral matters, including preparations for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s funeral ceremonies at Iraqi shrines, as mentioned in a statement on Araghchi’s Telegram channel.
