Beirut: Parliament's Finance and Budget Committee has completed its review of a bank reform law after six weeks of discussions, committee chairman Ibrahim Kanaan said on Thursday. Kanaan noted that only an annex remained to be finalized at a concluding session scheduled for Monday, after which the committee's report would be prepared.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, lawmakers have aimed to protect depositors by linking the bank reform law to legislation on deposit recovery and financial regularization. Kanaan emphasized that the committee would act to prevent governmental delays in completing amendments to the deposit recovery law.
He stated that the main priority was to ensure that the legislation was backed by adequate financing, allowing depositors to recover their rights and rebuild confidence in both the state and the banking sector. Kanaan highlighted that public trust could not be restored without directly addressing the central unresolved issue: deposits and people's financial rights.
