FM partakes in 162nd meeting of Arab League Council at ministerial level

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, participated in the 162nd meeting of the Arab League Council at ministerial level, which concluded Tuesday in Cairo.

The meeting discussed ways to strengthen Arab coordination and intensify efforts to stop the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, end the humanitarian catastrophe, and ensure adequate and sustainable delivery of humanitarian and relief aid to the Gaza Strip.

In his remarks during the meeting, Safadi emphasized the need to stop Israeli violations and the ongoing escalation in the occupied West Bank, warning that continued Israeli aggression on Gaza and escalation in the West Bank could lead to an explosion of the situation in the region and drag it into a regional war.

He stressed the need to stop the ongoing Israeli violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, and to respect the legal and historical status there.

Safadi also reaffirmed Jordan’s positions in support of the collective Ar
ab effort, joint co-operation on current Arab and regional issues, and maintaining joint co-ordination in dealing with various challenges and their repercussions.

The meeting issued a resolution that included supporting all efforts undertaken by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to protect Islamic and Christian holy sites in the occupied city of Jerusalem, affirming the role of the Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and its role in protecting its Arab, Islamic and Christian identity, its role in maintaining the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its holy sites, and affirming that the Jordanian Administration of Jerusalem Waqf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs is the exclusive legal entity with jurisdiction to manage and maintain the affairs of the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque and regulate access to it.
