Beirut: President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun, praised the statement issued by the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), which expressed strong support for Lebanon and its people in facing current challenges. He said the statement reflects the deep historical and fraternal ties between Lebanon and GCC countries.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, President Aoun highlighted the GCC's emphasis on the importance of preserving Lebanon's security, stability, and territorial integrity. The GCC also supports Lebanon's reform efforts and the strengthening of state institutions in line with the aspirations of the Lebanese people for a strong, capable, and just state.
President Aoun also welcomed the GCC's call for the Lebanese state to assert full sovereignty over its territory and restrict weapons exclusively to legitimate state institutions, in accordance with the Lebanese constitution and relevant international resolutions, particularly UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and Lebanese government decisions on the matter.
He expressed deep appreciation for the Gulf states' readiness to continue supporting Lebanon both humanitarily and developmentally, aiding in easing economic burdens and improving living conditions.
He reaffirmed Lebanon's commitment to maintaining the best relations with Arab countries, especially GCC states, and to strengthening cooperation in various fields to serve mutual interests and enhance regional stability.
