Gold Falls as Dollar Strengthens Ahead of Fed Decision; Oil Extends Losses

Beirut: Gold prices fell on Tuesday as a stronger U.S. dollar weighed on the market, while investors awaited the U.S. Federal Reserve's monetary policy decision for clues on the future path of interest rates. Spot gold slipped 0.7% to $4,044.81 per ounce as of 0250 GMT, after gaining about 1% in the previous session.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, oil prices also extended their decline, falling by more than $1 a barrel amid hopes for a negotiated settlement to the conflict between the United States and Iran, which has disrupted global energy flows. Brent crude futures fell $1.47, or 1.66%, to $86.89 a barrel as of 0326 GMT, their lowest level since July 20. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude dropped $1.45, or 1.76%, to $81.16 a barrel, also its lowest level since July 20.
