Beirut: Head of Lebanon's Land Transport Unions Bassam Tlais urged public transport drivers to adhere to the official fare set by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, warning that violations could lead to legal action. He said citizens should not bear additional financial burdens amid the country's economic crisis and rejected arbitrary fare increases. Tlais added that transport unions are coordinating with relevant authorities to finalize outstanding sector issues, and stressed they would not protect drivers who manipulate fares or exploit fuel price fluctuations to impose unofficial charges.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the call for compliance comes at a time when Lebanon is grappling with severe economic challenges, impacting both the public and private sectors. Tlais emphasized the importance of maintaining official fare standards to avoid exacerbating the financial strain on citizens already struggling with high living costs.

Tlais also highlighted ongoing efforts by transport unions to work closely with authorities to address unresolved issues in the sector. He reassured that any driver found exploiting the situation by imposing unofficial charges would face consequences, as maintaining fairness and transparency in fare structures is crucial.
