Beirut: Interior and Municipalities Minister Ahmad Hajjar chaired an emergency meeting of the National Road Safety Committee, attended by committee members, representatives of relevant ministries and administrations, and organizations active in road safety. The meeting reviewed measures and recommendations aimed at reducing traffic accidents, addressing high-risk locations, strengthening inter-agency coordination, and expanding awareness campaigns on safe driving, speed limits, and traffic regulations.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Internal Security Forces data cited during the meeting indicated that speeding accounted for 33% of accidents, while a lack of attention while driving was responsible for 40% of incidents during the second half of August. Hajjar asked the ISF to continue enforcing the traffic law and take firm measures against violations, particularly those affecting road safety.

"Road safety is a shared responsibility," Hajjar stated, emphasizing the necessity of transitioning from recommendations to effective implementation and maintaining roads in accordance with safety requirements. He also urged motorists to comply with traffic laws, cooperate with security forces and municipal police, and avoid endangering their own lives or those of others.
