Beirut: Agriculture Minister Nizar Hani on Wednesday held a series of meetings with agricultural bodies, producers, unions, and youth groups as part of efforts to advance the National Agriculture Sector Strategy 2026-2035. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Hani discussed challenges facing the grape and wine industry with the National Institute of Vine and Wine, emphasizing support for Lebanese production, market regulation, and local consumption. In discussions with the National Gathering of Agricultural Bodies, he highlighted plans to develop the farmers' registry, strengthen social protection, and expand access to foreign markets. He noted that around 1,000 tons of Lebanese produce are exported daily to Gulf markets and cited cooperation with Syria to curb smuggling and regulate product flows. Hani also met separately with butchers and slaughterhouse operators to discuss the implementation of a Cabinet decision governing slaughterhouses and food safety. During a meeting with participants in t he Youth Policy Makers program, Hani stressed the importance of innovation, technology, and entrepreneurship in attracting young people back to agriculture.
