Beirut: The press office of former Prime Minister Saad Hariri released a statement addressing accusations from Hezbollah and its media outlets regarding the involvement of the Future Movement in the Syrian conflict. The statement specifically clarifies the role of MP Oqab Saqr in these matters.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the statement outlined that MP Oqab Saqr was appointed by Saad Hariri to monitor the situation in Syria and coordinate with Syrian opposition forces. Saqr's responsibilities include managing media and political support for the Syrian people, who are under threat from the Syrian regime and its regional allies. His tasks focus on providing humanitarian aid to victims, including those injured, displaced, and orphaned by the ongoing conflict.
The statement further emphasized MP Saqr's efforts in collaborating with Turkish authorities to aid Lebanese citizens detained in Syria. This includes addressing issues faced by journalists working in the region. The press office highlighted the involvement of Hezbollah in supporting the Syrian regime, a fact acknowledged by Hezbollah leaders, and criticized the alleged "Jihad duty" that Hezbollah claims to perform in Syria.
The press office concluded by stating that the Lebanese government, which is criticized for its stance of non-involvement in the Syrian conflict, will ultimately be judged by the Lebanese people. The statement accused the government of being influenced by Hezbollah, which continues its engagement in the conflict despite the government's official policy of dissociation.
