Israeli Airstrikes in Southern Lebanon Result in 11 Fatalities, Hezbollah Vows Retaliation

Beirut: Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon resulted in the deaths of at least 11 individuals, marking one of the deadliest incidents since agreements in June aimed to ease tensions between Israel and Hezbollah. The Israeli military confirmed that the strikes were a retaliatory response to an attack by Hezbollah on its troops stationed in the region. The Iran-backed militant group issued a statement indicating that the attacks "would be met with what they deserve." According to France24.com, the Lebanese health ministry reported that the strikes on Saturday were among the deadliest in recent weeks, following a US-mediated peace framework between Lebanon and Israel. The framework was designed to mitigate hostilities, but tensions have remained high. The Israeli military targeted Hezbollah infrastructure overnight within what it terms a security zone in southern Lebanon. This action was in response to activities against its soldiers. Hezbollah, known for its strong stance against Israel, has rejected the t erms of the peace framework, which demands the disarmament of the group and the subsequent control of the area by the Lebanese army. Lebanon's official National News Agency reported that seven individuals lost their lives when Israeli warplanes targeted a house in the southern village of Ansar. An additional four fatalities occurred in a strike on the village of Deir El Zahrani. The casualties in Ansar included three children and two women, with a total of 19 people injured in the attacks.
