Beirut:Finance Minister Yassine Jaber met with Jacques De Lajugie, the economic envoy of French President Emmanuel Macron, to discuss Lebanon's financial and economic situation, focusing on reform efforts and collaboration with the International Monetary Fund.
According to National news agency - Lebanon, the meeting involved a review of key reforms, particularly the restructuring of the banking sector, addressing the financial gap, and managing public finances and debt. Lebanon's ongoing negotiations with the IMF were also a significant topic of discussion.
Minister Jaber detailed the government's and Finance Ministry's efforts to implement these reforms through practical measures. He emphasized the necessity of a comprehensive approach to financial and banking issues to restore fiscal order, safeguard financial stability, and rebuild confidence in Lebanon's economy.
Discussions with the IMF are ongoing, with convergence on several key issues, although some matters remain unresolved as preparations continue for the next phase of negotiations. The meeting also covered available fiscal options, public debt solutions, and the status of Banque du Liban and the banking sector.
Jaber highlighted the critical role of continued French support for Lebanon's reform and recovery initiatives.
