Damascus: The Progressive Socialist Party's Media Commission announced in a statement on Saturday that former party leader Walid Jumblatt visited Damascus, where he met with Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa. The meeting included the presence of Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shibani and acting Syrian ambassador to Lebanon Iyad al-Hazzaz. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Jumblatt was accompanied by "Democratic Gathering" bloc MPs Wael Abu Faour and Hadi Aboul-Hassan, as well as Progressive Socialist Party official Khodor al-Ghadban. The meeting focused on enhancing Lebanese-Syrian relations and exploring opportunities for political and economic cooperation. The discussions highlighted the importance of stability and sovereignty in both nations, urging a balanced approach to leverage shared history and geography for mutual benefits. The dialogue underscored the significance of support from Lebanon's Arab allies, particularly Syria, to reinforce Lebanese stability. The participants also emphasized Syria 's need for unity and initiatives to address societal grievances, including the release of detainees and ensuring justice for past violations. These measures are seen as crucial for reconciliation and have been long advocated by the Progressive Socialist Party. The statement also referenced the three-part roadmap announced in Amman, which calls for development initiatives, service provision, and the protection of religious sites, aligning with the broader objectives discussed during the meeting.
