Beirut: Education and Higher Education Minister Dr. Rima Karami marked the start of the new academic year with a message to students, teachers and families, affirming that reopening schools represents both a commitment to education and a step toward recovery after a particularly difficult year for Lebanon.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Karami paid tribute to students, teachers and loved ones who were lost, as well as families displaced or left without homes, stressing that recovery begins by acknowledging loss while helping children regain a sense of safety and hope.

She said the return to school would be gradual and adapted to conditions at each school, with diagnostic assessments used to identify learning gaps and direct support toward students most in need.

Addressing teachers, Karami urged them to look beyond grades and recognize the individual circumstances and potential of every child, while emphasizing the importance of cooperation between schools and families.

She stressed that the ministry's responsibility extends beyond reopening schools to ensuring continuity of learning, supporting teachers and students, helping schools recover and preventing the crisis from leaving lasting educational losses.

"In a country whose children have endured so much fear and loss, continuity of learning becomes more than an educational issue; it becomes a national responsibility," Karami said.

She concluded that every school reopening its doors represents another step toward a Lebanon "whose crises are not stronger than its future, and whose loss is not stronger than its hope."
