Beirut: Education and Higher Education Minister, Rima Karami, on Wednesday announced that 1,156 public schools and secondary schools, along with 75 official institutes, have been placed at the disposal of the Social Affairs Ministry and the National Disaster Management Authority, currently hosting more than 80,000 displaced people. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Karami spoke at a press conference at the ministry, emphasizing the need for exceptional measures to ensure the continuity of education while safeguarding students and teachers. She highlighted that many students are enrolled in foreign educational programs that adhere to fixed international exam schedules, with only about 40 effective days remaining in the academic year. Karami assured that special attention will be directed to students in shelter centers to maintain their connection with education. Distance learning will be adopted for public schools, vocational institutes, and the Lebanese University, with regular classes set to res ume online early next week. The Education Minister also announced the formation of an educational crisis cell, which will convene daily to monitor developments and address challenges facing remote learning.
