Beirut: Kataeb Party leader, Samy Gemayel, on Thursday met Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani to discuss Lebanese-Syrian relations and prospects for a new phase between the two countries.

According to National news agency - Lebanon, Shaibani stated that the visit aims to open a new chapter based on mutual respect, cooperation, and recognition of Lebanon as a sovereign state. He emphasized that no initiative related to Hezbollah was discussed during the meeting.

Gemayel voiced the need for relations founded on political independence and economic integration. He expressed hope that the visit would signify the beginning of a new era of cooperation between Lebanon and Syria.
