Beirut: President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, after coordination and consultation with House Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, has decided to assign former Ambassador and lawyer Simon Karam to head the Lebanese delegation to the meetings of the “Military Technical Committee for Lebanon.”

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, a statement issued by the Lebanese Presidency of the Republic disclosed this decision. The official spokesperson for the Presidency, Najat Charafeddine, emphasized that the decision aligns with the President’s constitutional oath and powers aimed at defending Lebanon’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and supreme national interests. This appointment comes in response to the efforts of the United States government, which chairs the committee established under the November 27, 2024 ‘Cessation of Hostilities Declaration.’ The American side informed the Lebanese authorities about the Israeli agreement to include a non-military member in its delegation participating in the committee.

The statement further noted that relevant authorities have been informed of this decision. Ambassador Karam is set to participate in the committee meeting scheduled for today, December 3, 2025, in Naqoura.
