Beirut: Lebanon's Central Bank Governor, Karim Souaid, along with his deputies, has embarked on a significant journey to France to engage in high-level working sessions organized by the Central Bank of Lebanon. These meetings are set to bring together senior officials from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) who are responsible for the Lebanon file, as well as Lebanon's Ministers of Finance and Economy.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, a statement from the Central Bank's Media and Public Relations Unit emphasized the importance of these sessions, which are being held in Paris at the initiative of the Central Bank of Lebanon. The meetings are a precursor to the IMF Spring Meetings scheduled for April, with a focus on advancing discussions concerning Lebanon's financial and economic reform agenda. Key topics on the agenda include legislative initiatives, structural reforms, and regulatory frameworks essential for supporting financial stability and promoting economic recovery.
The statement further elaborated that the meeting aims to address precautionary measures that both the Central Bank of Lebanon and the government should adopt during periods of economic and geopolitical instability. The goal is to preserve monetary stability and strengthen the resilience of the financial system. These discussions are taking place at the offices of the Central Bank of Lebanon's financial advisor in Paris, who is facilitating and organizing the technical discussions. The Central Bank of Lebanon considers this initiative an integral part of its ongoing efforts to foster constructive dialogue with international partners and Lebanese authorities, thereby supporting a coherent and credible path towards achieving much-needed economic stability, particularly in these challenging times.
