Bkerke:Maronite bishops, convening under Patriarch Cardinal Bechara Boutros Al-Rai, have condemned ongoing Israeli attacks on South Lebanon and emphasized the need for international efforts to aid residents' return, support negotiations, and ensure that all weapons are placed under state control.
According to National news agency - Lebanon, the bishops expressed grave concerns over the deteriorating economic and financial situation in the country. They highlighted the rising cost of living, diminishing job opportunities, and increasing youth emigration as critical issues. They called for urgent reforms, measures to combat corruption, implementation of fairer tax policies, and the restitution of depositors' funds.
The bishops also welcomed improved relations between Lebanon and Syria, advocating for mutual respect of sovereignty and enhanced economic cooperation. They stressed the importance of regulated and secure borders between the two nations.
Furthermore, the bishops urged the Lebanese government to maintain national balance and uphold competence and academic standards, particularly regarding appointments and full-time employment at the Lebanese University.
