Beirut: On the occasion of the first anniversary of Joseph Aoun's election as President of the Republic, Minister of Information, Paul Morcos, took to social media to reflect on the significant changes and challenges faced by Lebanon over the past year.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, President Aoun's election marked a turning point for the nation, ending a prolonged period of presidential vacuum and institutional paralysis. His leadership has been characterized by a focus on stability and institutional reform, addressing critical issues faced by Lebanon.

Since taking office, President Aoun has focused on rebuilding trust and reconnecting Lebanon with its regional neighbors. His foreign visits, starting with Saudi Arabia and extending across the Gulf, have been pivotal in reopening channels of dialogue and cooperation. This diplomatic outreach has been reciprocated by visits from foreign dignitaries, including the historic visit of Pope Leo XIV, signaling Lebanon's renewed openness to the world.

Domestically, President Aoun's administration has tackled numerous challenges head-on. Efforts have been made to ensure state control over weapons in the south and north, secure borders, and combat drug trafficking. The government has also intensified operations to enhance customs oversight and curb smuggling. Institutional progress is evident with the resumption of appointments, including key judicial and administrative positions, and the holding of municipal and local elections for the first time in nine years.

On the financial front, the government has made strides in passing crucial banking laws, addressing financial gaps, and restoring deposits, laying the groundwork for financial stability. Legislative progress has also been made with the passage of the Law on the Independence of the Judiciary and the advancement of the Media Law, underscoring Lebanon's commitment to modernizing its legal framework.

As Lebanon enters the second year of President Aoun's term, the nation continues to navigate challenges, including ongoing regional conflicts. Despite these difficulties, the movement of nearly 700,000 people during the holiday season and the return of over half a million displaced Syrians highlight the resilience and determination of the Lebanese people to rebuild and thrive.
