Ministers Address Climate and Health Challenges in Lebanon

Beirut: Minister of Environment Tamara Zein and Public Health Minister Dr. Rakan Nasser Al-Din convened a pivotal meeting to enhance cooperation between their ministries in tackling pressing environmental and health issues.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the discussion underscored the critical need for national coordination on climate change and its effects on public health. Key topics included the impact of heat waves, deteriorating air quality, and the increasing strain on health and environmental systems.

The ministers also delved into strategies for sustainable medical waste management and improving treatment and monitoring mechanisms to mitigate environmental and health risks. Their goal is to protect citizens and healthcare workers and ensure their well-being.

Emphasizing the value of joint efforts, the ministers agreed on the importance of exchanging expertise and data to support national policies. Such collaboration aims to bolster Lebanon's ability to address future health and environmental challenges.

A significant outcome of the meeting was the decision to establish a joint coordination unit. This unit will oversee climate and health projects, streamline efforts, and develop initiatives related to environmental health and climate change adaptation.
